Yes, with transparency. ComplianceLogger is based on EPA's own Audit Policy (1995, revised 2000), which provides penalty reduction for systematic discovery and prompt correction of violations. The key is transparency: our confidence level system (DOCUMENTED/ESTIMATED/RECONSTRUCTED) and transparent timestamping show EPA you're making a good faith effort, not falsifying records. Creating backdated records = illegal. Creating timestamped reconstruction notes = legal.
ComplianceLogger shows transparent timestamps on all records. If you create a log today about last year's disposal, the system shows it was created today. This is intentional and legal. EPA's Audit Policy specifically encourages systematic discovery of violations followed by prompt correction. Our "Audit Mode" badge explicitly shows records were reconstructed during audit preparation. This transparency is your protection.
Maybe. If you're using Excel or paper logs, ComplianceLogger provides: (1) secure cloud storage with backup, (2) photo documentation capability, (3) structured reports EPA expects, (4) confidence level tracking for uncertain data. Plus, Audit Mode is your insurance policy—even organized contractors have gaps in records. When EPA shows up, you'll be glad you have the reconstruction tools ready.
