Clio Integration Setup

Connect QuoteCreator to your Clio account in minutes with secure authentication.

🔒 Secure by Design: We use industry-standard secure authentication. We never see or store your Clio password—authentication happens directly between you and Clio.

What You'll Get

Once connected, QuoteCreator integrates seamlessly with your Clio account:

Before You Start

Make sure you have:

⚠️ Firm-Managed Accounts: If you're part of a law firm with admin-managed Clio access, check with your IT administrator before connecting third-party apps. Some firms restrict integrations for security compliance.

Setup Steps

1 Open QuoteCreator Settings

  1. Open the QuoteCreator web app in your browser
  2. Click the ⚙️ Settings icon (usually in the top-right corner or navigation menu)
  3. Scroll to the Integrations section
  4. Find Clio Integration and click Connect to Clio

2 Complete Manual OAuth Authorization

⚠️ Important: This is a manual copy/paste process. QuoteCreator will open your browser, then you'll need to copy the authorization code back to the app.

Step 2A: Authorize in Your Browser

  1. QuoteCreator automatically opens your browser to the Clio authorization page
  2. Enter your Clio email and password (we never see this)
  3. Review the permissions QuoteCreator is requesting:
    • Read matters: To browse and search your client matters
    • Write documents: To upload estimate PDFs to matters
  4. Click "Allow Access" to authorize

Step 2B: Copy Code from "Can't Reach This Site" Page

  1. After clicking "Allow", your browser will show "Can't reach this site" or similar error
  2. This is normal! Look at the URL in your browser's address bar
  3. The URL will look like: http://localhost/callback?code=AbCdEf123...
  4. Copy the entire URL from the address bar (or just the code after code=)

📱 What You'll See in Your Browser:

After clicking "Allow Access", the browser shows:

  • "This site can't be reached" or "Unable to connect"
  • URL in address bar: http://localhost/callback?code=...
  • Don't close this page yet! You need to copy the URL first

Step 2C: Paste Code Into QuoteCreator

  1. Switch back to QuoteCreator (use app switcher or tap QuoteCreator icon)
  2. You'll see "Paste Authorization Code" screen with a text field
  3. Paste the URL or code into the field (QuoteCreator will extract the code automatically)
  4. Tap "Continue" to complete authorization

💡 Pro Tips:

  • Split-screen mode: If your device supports it, keep QuoteCreator and browser visible at once
  • Copy the entire URL: Don't worry about extracting just the code—paste the whole URL and QuoteCreator will parse it
  • Address bar, not error message: Copy from the address bar at the top, not the error text on the page
  • Codes expire quickly: If it doesn't work, start over from Step 1 within a few minutes

🔐 Security Note: Your Clio password stays with Clio—we only receive a secure access token that allows QuoteCreator to perform the actions you approve.

3 Confirm Connection

  1. You'll be redirected back to QuoteCreator
  2. You'll see a ✅ Connected to Clio success message
  3. Your Clio account email will be displayed in Settings
  4. Connection status will show as Active

✅ Setup Complete! You can now upload estimates directly to your Clio matters. See the next section for usage instructions.

Disconnecting from Clio

From QuoteCreator

To disconnect your Clio integration from QuoteCreator:

  1. Open QuoteCreator Settings
  2. Go to Integrations → Clio Integration
  3. Click Disconnect from Clio
  4. Confirm the disconnection

This will delete all Clio access tokens from your browser. Your estimates remain intact, but you won't be able to upload to Clio until you reconnect.

From Clio (Revoke Access)

To permanently revoke QuoteCreator's access from the Clio side:

  1. Log in to Clio
  2. Go to Settings → Integrations → Connected Apps
  3. Find QuoteCreator in the list
  4. Click Revoke Access
  5. Confirm the revocation

This prevents QuoteCreator from accessing your Clio account, even if you use the app again in the future. You'll need to re-authorize if you want to reconnect later.
